We are delighted that two Health Innovation Networks have been shortlisted in the 2024 Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards.

This is in addition to the two networks that were shortlisted in the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Patient Safety Awards earlier this year.

The awards shine a light on the outstanding efforts and achievements that teams and partnerships across the NHS have delivered.

Health Innovation East has been shortlisted for the Digitising Patient Care award for its Innovating Parkinson’s Care project with the Neu Health. Neu Health’s software is an app which helps patients to measure a wide range of Parkinson’s symptoms. By capturing data in this way via smartphones, this can bridge the gap in care as often patients will have 12 months or more between consultant appointments. Clinicians can quickly and easily view data on a dashboard meaning they can spend more time optimising medication and referrals to improve care.

Health Innovation East supported Neu Health with its pilot at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) which demonstrated the equivalent of over 500 hours of remote patient testing completed via the platform and up to 60% of patients receiving a change in their clinical care as a result.  You can read more about the pilot here.

The Health Innovation Kent Surrey Sussex Patient Safety Collaborative and Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have been shortlisted for the Patient Safety Award.

The project “Reducing Preterm Birth: a success story”, saw the establishment of specialist Preterm Birth (PTB) Clinics at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital (ASPH) in 2018, significantly reducing their PTB rate, now among the lowest in the country. The services have expanded to optimise preterm deliveries, improve outcomes and provide follow-up care, encouraging couples to return to services for future pregnancies.

The award ceremony is on 21 November 2024.

Earlier this year two networks were also shortlisted in the HSJ Patient Safety Awards.

Health Innovation East Midlands has been shortlisted with Lincolnshire Community Health Services Trust for the Transforming Wound Care programme for Community Care Initiative of the Year. Using the National Wound Care Strategy Programme recommendations, Health Innovation East Midlands worked with the Lincolnshire Community Health Services team to transform the pathway for housebound (non-diabetic) patients with lower leg wounds. You can find out more here.

And Health Innovation Manchester, in partnership with NHS Greater Manchester and NIHR Greater Manchester Patient Safety Research Collaboration has been shortlisted for the Improving Medicines Safety Award for its work scaling a local Safety Medication Dashboard (SMASH) programme to benefit the 2.8 million population of Greater Manchester. You can find out more about the project in this case study.

The Patient Safety Awards are on 16 September.
